Bem Square – Fő Street – St. Florian Greek Catholic church – St. Francis’ Wounds Church – Batthyány Square – St Anna Church – Church of Szilágyi Dezső Square – Church Saint Elisabeth of the Capuchin Order – Corvin Square
One street. Five churches. One Catholic, another one Protestant or Greek Catholic. And three squares. This part of Buda has always been a central site.
Let’s take a two-hour walk along Fő Street and listen to stories of the Turkish mosques, Baroque churches, fairs in the Reform Era and saints from the Middle Ages. Casanova and Saint Elisabeth, Ady and István Horthy, Alajos Hauszmann, Saint Francis and many others accompany us on our way. We learn what the Elisabeth balls are, which is the highest tower in Buda, where the word “cappuccino” comes from. But let’s not disclose everything. Whoever is curious should find out for themselves.
